Photos of Famous Photographers with their Famous Photos

‘Behind Photographs’ is a new book designed to celebrate the history of photography, but not in any of the traditional ways. It tells the story behind each of over 150 different photographs and the photographers that took them, but it goes a step further.Tim Mantoani, the creator of the book, travelled across the country with a 20×24 Polaroid camera and captured images of the legendary photographers behind each image, all of whom are holding their work in front of them. To add to the appeal, Mantoani also had each of these photographers write about the photo they’re shown with. The standard edition of ‘Behind Photographs’ is available now for $60. Read all post…

Live updates from fishing boats could reduce waste

When customers of the fisheries company Sanriku Toretate Ichiba want to shop for fish, they connect to the net. The firm, based in Sanriku town in Japan’s Iwate prefecture, posts details of its catches online in real time, offering consumers the chance to buy fish almost as soon as it is hauled from the sea. This could help make fishing more sustainable by matching supply and demand, says the entrepreneur behind the firm – though others are unconvinced.

Kenichiro Yagi set up his online fisheries company in 2010. Events since then have made the move seem prescient. Sanriku was devastated by last year’s tsunami. I

Wintel Tablet Prices to Start at $600

While more of a steady smolder than a spectacular blaze when compared to the iPad, the Kindle Fire has shown that consumers are not averse to buying a non-iPad tablet as long as the price is right and the specs not too shabby. Amazon has literally lit up the tablet market, with a number of vendors now taking its lead in releasing affordable Android tablets. All the combustion metaphors aside, this surge in the ranks of decent budget tablets is only going to make the task that much harder for Wintel tablets, especially given Microsoft and Intel’s reluctance to subsidize their products. Everyone wants to know just how the duo would respond. W
