UXC lands Fortescue, Rio Tinto comms work
Construction firm Pindan has sub-contracted the installation of internet systems at two mine accommodation camps in Western Australia’s Pilbara region to UXC Connect.
UXC will provide a mix of gigabit passive optical network (GPON) fibre and satellite systems to camps at Fortescue Metals’ Solomon Hub Project and Rio Tinto’s 200-bed Northern Link Construction Camp.
Pindan is building temporary and permanent work camps at Solomon Hub, Fortescue’s latest iron ore project in the Pilbara.
Work started on the permanent camp in late 2011 and is expected to be completed by August this year.
Work on Rio Tinto’s Northern Link camp is scheduled to be finished this month.
A Pindan spokeswoman told iTnews that UXC is subcontracting on both Pindan projects.
Photos of Famous Photographers with their Famous Photos
‘Behind Photographs’ is a new book designed to celebrate the history of photography, but not in any of the traditional ways. It tells the story behind each of over 150 different photographs and the photographers that took them, but it goes a step further.Tim Mantoani, the creator of the book, travelled across the country with a 20×24 Polaroid camera and captured images of the legendary photographers behind each image, all of whom are holding their work in front of them. To add to the appeal, Mantoani also had each of these photographers write about the photo they’re shown with. The standard edition of ‘Behind Photographs’ is available now for $60. Read all post…

The firm, based in Sanriku town in Japan’s Iwate prefecture, posts details of its catches online in real time, offering consumers the chance to buy fish almost as soon as it is hauled from the sea. This could help make fishing more sustainable by matching supply and demand, says the entrepreneur behind the firm – though others are unconvinced.
Kenichiro Yagi set up his online fisheries company in 2010. Events since then have made the move seem prescient. Sanriku was devastated by last year’s tsunami. I
App Review – Adobe Photoshop Express
Adobe Photoshop Express (formerly, Photoshop.com Mobile) is a well-balanced and versatile app, providing just the right amount of functionality without trying to do too much and becoming unwieldy. Clicking on one of the photos opens it up, as one would expect, and the menu options allow for editing, deleting, uploading, viewing photos as a slideshow, and setting wallpapers (which goes a bit quicker than setting the wallpaper from within the stock gallery but does not allow for cropping). The
